Mount Tai, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is a sacred mountain in Shandong province. The tallest peak is the Jade Emper- or Peak which is 1545 metres tall. The mountain was once called Mt. Daishan, Mt. Daizong or Mt. Taiyue and was renamed Mt. Taishan in the Spring and Autumn Period. Mount Tai has been a place of worship for at least 3,000 years and served as one of the most important ceremonial centers of China.
