Phoenix Ancient Town

221893 Downloads

Fenghuang(Phoenix) Ancient Town is a scenic area which belongs to Fenghuang county, Tujia-Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Xiangxi, Hunan province. It is a 10 k㎡ small town and was given the name because its shape looks like a phoenix (Literally, Fenghuang means “phoenix” in Chinese). More than half of the population in town are the Miao people, an ethnic minority of China, who speak a unique language other than Mandarin and pass on colorful culture, literature, and art. Historically, Fenghuang has produced many talented, famous people in various fields, who contributed their intelligence, virtue, and creativity and effected the whole country. As you travel in Fenghuang, you may see former homes of many of them, and the people in Fenghuang will proudly share the stories to you. Fenghuang provides its guests a perfect chance to observe the aboriginal lifestyle of the Miao people under traditional context. The ancient town is small itself. One day is enough for a tourist to visit every corner of the town. However, the true essence of Fenghuang is not in a quick-paced visit but in a peaceful, slow period of small town life in China that let you forget the rest of the world. The Miao People: The Miao is a grand ethnicity with long history. Its sub-groups, including Hmong, Xong, and A-Hmao, etc, spread across Asia in countries including China, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. Many of their descendants have immigrated to the Americas, Australia, and Europe.
